With that in mind, the Viceroy became the perfect choice for his lighting design.

One of the main reasons for including the Viceroy was the incandescent feel created by its center scoop, surrounded by a pixel-mappable ring. This combination made it an ideal fixture for achieving the “old school punk rock show” aesthetic Ben was looking for, while still offering multiple control options to create a variety of looks throughout Coheed’s performances, complementing the world-building nature of the band's music.

Another factor behind his choice was the fixture’s connection to Coheed’s visual identity. “The cart design is meant to be inspired by ‘The Keywork,’ which in the band’s lore represents the energy field that binds the worlds that make up Heaven’s Fence. In my design, the Viceroys are entire worlds,” shared Ben.

Beyond the creative possibilities, reliability was a key factor in selecting the Viceroy. Ben needed a fixture that could withstand the demands of touring while remaining easy to deploy every day. Its robust construction allowed it to be safely mounted on top of 9-foot pipes during load-ins, while its IP65 rating provided additional confidence during outdoor performances and weather delays. Knowing the fixtures could handle the challenges of the road gave the production team one less thing to worry about.

For Ben, the Viceroy delivered the right balance of creative flexibility, visual impact, and touring durability. As Coheed continued across North America, the fixture helped bring the band's unique visual universe to life while standing up to the realities of life on the road.
