From May 3rd to May 31st, 2025, Magik Theatre brought the beloved Mexican game Lotería to life in a vibrant, bilingual and family-friendly stage adventure.
“¡Lotería: Game On!” follows siblings Sam and Kris as they journey into the enchanted world of Lotería to rescue their father, where they encounter iconic characters from the traditional game, including El Gallo, La Mano, and La Rana.
This colorful adventure was illuminated and programmed by lighting designer Jordan Armstrong, who utilized a dynamic array of MEGA-LITE fixtures to create a visually stunning experience. The lighting setup included:
-10 MW1
-1 Framebot 600
-4 MS1
-14 N-E Pixstrip H216
-4 Drama LED W50
-2 Drama VW2
-1 Nova lite UV
-1 H6 Hazer
-1 Mega Node
-8 PieLite Multibeam.
The thoughtful combination of these fixtures produced a rich palette of colors and dramatic lighting moments that enhanced character performances, such as the moving effects created with the MW1, a unit featuring powerful step motors that allows for fast and slow movements with a 540 pan and 270 tilt. The PieLite Multibeams were placed on the back platform as audience blinders using 7 x 60W RGB + Cool White LED 4.5 pixel beams with individual control. The H6 Hazer, a fog machine that uses water-based haze nectar, added an air of mystery and heightened anticipation throughout the transition to the gameshow.
Armstrong also pointed out: “The framebot’s wide beam angle with high output was impressive, and the versatility of the MW1s was a huge use. The PieLites bright and sharp beam combined with the haze gave the illusion of an expanded set. The color quality on all fixtures used helped create a vibrant and saturated look to the show.”
In addition, six MEGAVIEW Falcon Panels were installed at the center of the stage, serving as the visual focal point of the Lotería world. Under the direction of video designer Mickey Raley, the iconic cards were brought to life in a dazzling display of animation and lighting. These panels are well-suited for both production and rental use, offering quick installation, 800 nits of brightness, and a 3.9 mm pitch for high-resolution visuals.
MEGA-LITE extends its thanks to Thaddeus Morris for his supervision of the lighting design, and proudly reaffirms its commitment to supporting local talent and helping Magik Theatre bring every story to life, brightly and brilliantly.
